Who is OAT?
At Oregon Adventure Theatre, we are passionate about bringing stories to life through the art of Commedia Dell'Arte mask work. Our productions are a celebration of the outdoors and the human experience. While our season is usually headlined by a play by William Shakespeare, this summer’s show is Shakespeare-inspired!
OAT is a non-profit 501(c)3 company that has been around for 14 years with our mission to do good work that strengthens relationships between people and the outdoors. We produce plays lit by lanterns and a propane fire pit, all throughout the Portland metro area. We will be performing in backyards, parks, and the run will culminate in an overnight campout at Turning Earth Farms in Dallas, OR.
Some characters in The Simple Truth will be wearing leather Commedia Dell’Arte masks. Please reference OAT’s website for more information on how and why OAT utilizes masks to tell the story. https://www.oregonadventuretheatre.com/
What is the show about? The Simple Truth is an epic five-act tragicomedy written in verse and set in the shadow of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night. It tells a story of sovereignty, grief, and ecological preservation in a mythic and poetic setting - the fictional Mediterranean city-state Bonavia, home to the notorious and renegade sea-captain Antonio.
Now that great King Virgillio has died, how shall Bonavia resist the greed of Illyria? How, amid such grief, shall Princess Ethelia challenge her brother, the newly crowned King Leonardo, against despair, collusion, and self-annihilation? The contest for the soul of their nation rests
